Free Screening: The Great Disconnect

April 26, 2021 - In recognition of Mental Health Week, Achieving Community Together (ACT) is inviting Parkland School Division teens in Grades 9-12 and their families to participate in a FREE online screening and followup discussion of the film, The Great Disconnect.

Date: Friday, May 7
Time: 6-8pm
Location: Online Zoom Meeting

Winner of Best Feature Film at the 2020 Better Cities Film Festival, The Great Disconnect (rated PG) examines why many of us are feeling increasingly isolated in spite of all the new ways we have to interact with each other, and the profound effect modern means of communication has had on our physical and mental health. This documentary calls on us to consider the way we truly connect with those around us and how we might work together to break the boundaries technology has built between us and reforge real relationships with others.

As part of their goal of creating a healthy community without boundaries, ACT is inviting Grade 9-12 students, their families, and PSD staff to take in this film together and start a discussion: what can youth do to change the status quo and fulfill our potential for health and well-being?

Immediately following the film, participants will be connected with the #triregionbunch - a group of local citizens, community activists, and key decision makers in area planning - to discuss opportunities for supporting all youth during this pandemic, and to discover the many regional supports and services available to help citizens improve their mental health, physical activity and nutrition.

Up to 100 participants can register for this FREE event by visiting the Zoom Meeting Registration site. All student participants will be entered in a random draw for one of two $100 Boston Pizza gift cards.

We look forward to seeing you there! To learn more about The Great Disconnect, check out the trailer below:
